Meanwhile, the following was written on May 30th this year, now we’re in thick of the season.
Spring has sprung for sure in most of the country… and now the heat is on. Soon, June 1st will be upon us and the stormy season begins. Yes! Hurricane Season runs June 1st – November 30th.
Many pet owners worry about these storms due to the devastation that may occur to property… But what about out pets? They can easily become frightened during a typical electrical storm, but a hurricane? Oh my… I remember watching my Buttercup sitting at the sliding glass door at 2 AM after we lost power during Hurricane Irma in September 2017. She was staring out at the trees blowing sideways, as the wind howled relentlessly. Meanwhile, Oscar hid under the desk in our interior room. Yes it was a very scaring time. My nerves were frazzled and I couldn’t wait til morning when I knew it would be over. It was a long 36 hours that was merciless. My area of Florida was also hit with the dirty side of the hurricane – which means tornado activity. Here’s Buttercup in the bathroom sink when we took cover for the many tornado warnings we received during Irma.
I had made the decision to stay put knowing my home was pretty solid. I had extensive provision and expected a power outage to last for several days. It lasted for only a day for me. I did however prepare extensively both for my safety and comfort along with the safety and comfort of my animals. I also created a check list for myself that I’d like to share with you as a pet owner to make sure your pet is comfortable during the next hurricane. If you would like a FREE version of our “Pet Comfort During a Hurricane” please sign up at our website ThankGodiMaFeline.com. As a result of my experience with Hurricane Irma in September 2017, of course I wrote a book – A Survivor’s Guide to Emergency Preparedness which can be found on Amazon.
However, I’m hoping that this hurricane season will be a quiet one for all us humans and our fur companions.
Wishing you an enjoyable springtime.
Love and Hugs to you AND your fur babies,
Rosemary, Oscar and Buttercup
